Mango Chutney

  • 2 Cups sugar
  • 1 cup white vinegar
  • 6 Cups mango, skinned & diced
  • 1 cup white onion, diced
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup crystallized ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon whole mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes


Seems that the Canadian folks really enjoy this chutney. I guess they just can not get the good stuff that far north!


Combine sugar and vinegar in a 6 quart pot, bring to a boil stirring until sugar dissolves.  Add remaining ingredients and simmer uncovered until syrupy and thickened, about 1 hour.  Cool and pour into freezer containers and freeze.  Chutney freezes well and can easily be spooned out a spoonful at a time as needed.

Peeling, pitting and chopping that much fresh mango is a pain in the ___ so I just buy the frozen halves or chunks and cut them down to size.
