Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried navy beans
  • 4 slice thick cut bacon fried and crumbled Add the fat as well.
  • 4 Cups water
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2-3 slice dried pineapple, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried mustard
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Notes

These aren't quite "Baked" beans as they're done in a slow cooker but Julie brought them to a group dinner recently and they are really GOOD!

Directions

Soak beans over night covered with water.  Replace water several times to remove stachyose (gas producing sugars).  Drain beans and add all ingredients to a slow cooker, cover and cook on low 10-12 hours adjusting water as needed.
